Recurring schedule for automated system updates.

Hi.
I was wondering if you have any plans on implementing a recurring schedule for system updates on firewalls managed by DynFi.

We have 36 OPNsense firewalls managed by DynFi and will keep on growing.
DynFi is a great way to manage all of our customer firewalls and we are looking forward in anticipation on what new features will be implemented.

The system update schedule is good for one time updates.
But we would like to automate this as much as possible.

It would be great if you could create multiple recurring schedules and apply them to either device groups or on individual firewalls.

For example.
Firewall A should install minor updates once every month.
Firewall A should also install major updates once every three months.
Group A should install minor updates every weekend
Group B should install major updates every night

Above could be a great way to automate updating the firewalls and keeping them secured.

Thanks a lot for your question.

The major problem here is that there are way too many upgrades with OPNsense devices.
Most of them are needless and are mainly used for marketing purposes rather than justified by any real need (security breach or major feature upgrades).

This is one of the reason why we will have a big announcement in the coming months…
Contact me in PM if you want to know more about this "upcoming announcement".

That being said, we can perfectly schedule an upgrade of any system in advance, you simply have to :
  • go to home >> devices
  • select the devices you want to upgrade (they'll appear in yellow when they are selected)
  • move at the end of the list and click "UPDATE SYSTEM ON SELECTED DEVICES"
  • you'll have the opportunity to schedule the upgrade whenever you want
  • once this is done the upgrade will be listed in the "Scheduled action" menu on the left (you can delete it if you no longer want this upgrade to happen)
  • note to speedup the selection process :
    • you can add tags to your devices
    • use the "tagged list" to only select the devices corresponding to this tag
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your post.
